Did Jessica Simpson pay for her own engagement ring?

Rumors, rumors, rumors. Wonderful, gleaming rumors. Rumors about attractive individuals whose recorded music can be purchased on compact discs. Could anything be better? Why, yes: certainly, follow up rumors are better. Especially when theses follow up rumors contain additional quantities of both juiciness and audacity.

The original rumor, substantiated by photographic evidence: Jessica Simpson’s boyfriend bought her a really, really expensive engagement ring that has a big ruby surrounded by diamonds in it. The above mentioned photographic evidence kills the novelty of the rumor and, as such, new rumors must be found and consumed.

Unless: an additional intrigue may be added to the original rumor, thereby revitalizing it and making it fit for re-consumption.

The follow up, potentially revitalizing, rumor: Jessica Simpson’s boyfriend did not in fact purchase her a really, really expensive ring; instead, Jessica Simpson payed for her really, really expensive ring herself!

Enter the mysterious “source”, “friend”, or “person familiar with the situation” so often dodgily referenced by corporate peddlers of rumors: ”No way could Eric, who doesn’t have a job at the moment, afford to purchase such an expensive ring…Yes, he made a little bit of money in the NFL and is from a wealthy family, but unless his parents helped him out, Jessica must have paid for it herself.”

Do you quiver with rumor fever? Do you gleefully judge Simpson and her boyfriend? Would you refuse to sign their yearbooks?
