Jamey Johnson is a country musician. David Spade introduced him with a funny line before his performance of “Macon” at CMT Music Awards.
When the actor arrived at the Bridgestone Arena in downtown Nashville, he was instantly met by Kid Rock who will host the show. Then Kid Rock informed David Spade that the actor will be introducing Jamey Johnson’s performance while Kid Rock will introduce Carrie Underwood. David Spade made a funny reply, “I didn’t fly in a puddle-jumper from Little Rock to introduce the dude who looks like an extra on Ice Road Truckers.”
Jamey Johnson had been criticized because of his rough-and-tumble approach to personal grooming but he is became one of the country’s best-acclaimed acts when he released That Lonesome Song in 2008. He even earned a Grammy nomination for his album and picked up positive reviews about his Waylon Jennings-inspired sound.
Jamey Johnson’s latest album is a double-CD package called The Guitar Song coming this September 14, 2010 with 25 songs which is about two hours of listening time. He described his album as black and white with a yin-yang theme because some song songs are upbeat and some are dark. The songs in the album are also positioned to set up a specific emotional progression.
The Macon which Jamey Johnson performed and debuted in CMT Music Awards is from The Guitar Song Album.
Jamey Johnson’s latest gig will be on Sunday at the Bonnaroo Music Festival in Manchester, Tennesee together with other country musicians and/or bluegrass groups such as Zac Brown Band, Miranda Lambert, Kris Kristofferson, the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band and Hot Rize.
