Spain VS Netherlands 2010 World Cup: Time For The Finals

Spain VS Netherlands World Cup: Time For The FinalsHistory will be made in South Africa on July 11, 2010.  The Netherlands and Spain are both going for their first ever World Cup in what appears to be one of the most exciting finals in the history of the World Cup.  This may not be the final most expected or even hoped for but it is not that much of a surprise.  Spain has been the pre-tournament favorite while the Netherlands was, without a doubt, one of the elite candidates.

Unquestionably, Spain is the more talented team.  The odds have also made it clear that they like Spain better.  But the Netherlands can still win if they play the game of their lives.  Beating Brazil was undeniably extraordinary but beating Spain will require a different strategy and a different set of skills.  Spain knows how to frustrate their opponents, thus dictating the style of play.  It may not be interesting but it’s certainly effective.  The Netherlands would have to find a way to take control offensively and force the pace of play.  This strategy is not guaranteed to work against Spain but when it does, like when the Americans beat them at the Confederations Cup last year, it is incredibly effective.

Spain’s victory depends on their talent at ball possession and attacking as a team.  They would have to manipulate the gaps in the Netherland’s weak defense to their advantage.

The Netherlands also has a better chance of winning if they score the first goal.  If Spain scores first, they will definitely protect their lead with their strength in midfield and defense.  The Dutch would have to stick to continuous attacks and goals to win.  Most importantly, they should make sure they won’t repeat Germany’s mistakes.  The Germans had no answer to the Spanish midfield.  The Dutch cannot sit back and absorb pressure.  They have to pressure Spain’s midfielders and defenders far more than Germany did.

At this point, nothing is certain. The only sure thing is, this game is not worth missing.  The ultimate face off will take place at 2:30 PM EST in the Soccer City Stadium in Johannesburg.
