Rangers will acquire Cliff Lee and Mark Lowe for Justin Smoak and three others, according to Joel Sherman of New York Post. Lowe will miss the rest of the season because of his surgery, so his inclusion in the trade is unknown. Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports confirmed that the Rangers are acquiring Lee and said the Mariners are sending cash too. Buster Olney of ESPN reports that the Mariners are sending $2.5MM to the Rangers. The Mariners will also acquire two pitchers and a position player and Justin Smoak, according to Jon Paul Morosi of FOX Sports. The 21-year-old righty Blake Beavan is also in the trade.
Previous talks with Yankees broke down because Mariners had concerns about David Adams’ health, so Yankees declined the Mariners’ offer.
